I am so very honored...

Today I was going to blog about the fabulous and super productive long holiday weekend we just had....and no worries....I still will, tomorrow....because today I witnessed such an amazing young man that I just had to share with you.

We were running a quick errand to my second home TARGET...when this older lady (maybe around 55ish) approached us in a very stuttery broken voice and her eyes welling up with tears.  She said "Excuse me, I'm so sorry...and I'm so embarrased but I just lost my home and I have 3 teenaged sons...I'm trying to sell some things to get some money for us to stay at a hotel." There she stood keeping her distance from us as to not scare us or turn us away immediatley (eventhough she was a harmless lil bitty thing) she stood there with what looked like to be some school supplies...I got a glimpse of a kitty cat folder and some other trinkets...and I almost started to cry.  I am an OVERLY emotional person in situations like these...I'm going to be honest I usually freeze up and look down because I can't handle seeing people in such distress...but today was different...I didnt keep walking...but it wasnt my doing ...it was Johnny's. As she stood there asking for help....Johnny politley interrupted and said.."Oh....no problem...I can help" he pulled out that wallet as quickly as if he were to pay for Metallica tickets...he whipped out some cash and walked right up to her as if he were going to hug her....this actually touched me the most...because I have seen many people give..but not like this.  Johnny treated her as if she were a friend who just came over to ask for a couple of bucks...he talked to her with joy in his voice and not pity.  Johnny saw her as just another human  needing help...and he being able to help her.  This is the same kid that saves his every dollar like its his last in order to buy himself a baked potato from Wendy's every Wed. after his Chinese class. When Johnny did this the lady started crying even harder...maybe because she was touched that a teenage boy was kinder to her than the gray-haired man driving his Benz was just a moment earlier...maybe she cried because she was embarrassed...and maybe she cried because she was hungry.  My heart aches for her and many others like her....because she looked like  any other American woman out there who has fallen on hard times...she looked like she could have been one of the fellow PTA moms that sat beside me and helped organize bake sales....and now this very woman walks the streets asking for help.  And I pray there are more people out there like Johnny....and not the gray-haired Benz man.

  1. This blog post reminded me of two quotes:

Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So, spread your love everywhere you go.
    Mother Teresa

Let us touch the dying, the poor, the lonely and the unwanted according to the graces we have received and let us not be ashamed or slow to do the humble work.

You should be so proud of your son, you're doing a great job raising him. So glad him made a joyful act toward a person in need!

  2. Thanks Melissa...you are so sweet. And thanks for posting those beautiful comments from Mother Teresa if only we could all put those thoughts in our hearts every morning.
